It was a sad Geneva first: in May 2023, two dogs died in a car that was too hot, after being left there for several hours. A third barely survived. As reported by the “Tribune de Genève”, their owner was sentenced at the end of 2024 by criminal order. He was fined 4,000 francs for mistreatment of animals.
The man is devastated. Participating as a professional in an event in the countryside, he had left his animals in the passenger compartment. It wasn’t particularly hot, and he had left the windows of his vehicle ajar. Unfortunately, several people had accessed them and accidentally closed them while locking the car.
The event illustrates the dangers faced by animals in such situations. The veterinary services, cited by the Geneva media, explain that with an outside temperature of 25 degrees, that of the living space can reach 38 to 50 degrees in a few minutes. And when it’s 32 degrees outside, it only takes ten minutes for the interior of a car to rise to 70 degrees.
