The President of the Republic spoke by telephone with the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, on Saturday January 18, 2025, following the agreement reached on the release of hostages and the cessation of hostilities in Gaza.
The President of the Republic expressed to the President of the Palestinian Authority his condolences and those of the French people for all the civilian victims in Gaza. The agreement confirmed yesterday gave hope for the return of security and peace for all. France was ready to contribute to this with its international partners and in particular its regional partners.
It was now essential to work immediately to respond to the vital emergency for Gazans, by ensuring a massive delivery of humanitarian aid, meeting the needs of the inhabitants. France, which has worked in recent months with all its partners in the region, including Jordan, Egypt, the Emirates and Qatar, would strengthen its efforts to respond to this emergency.
The Head of State also clarified to President Abbas that it was important in this context to be able to restore Palestinian governance in Gaza, fully involving the Palestinian Authority. The President of the Republic and President Abbas thus discussed the necessary measures in this direction.
-The President of the Republic finally stressed that the future of the Gaza Strip must be part of that of a future Palestinian state and that in doing so it was necessary to ensure that no massacre, such as that committed on the 7th October, can never happen again against the Israeli people.
The solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could not only be security. In this regard, the President of the Republic reiterated France’s determination to work with the parties and international partners, starting with Saudi Arabia with whom France will chair a conference in June in order to define a clear road map. towards the implementation of the two-State solution, the only one capable of guaranteeing peace and security for all in the region.
