According to him, this trend created a climate where President Emmanuel Macron “believed he could govern against the French”. De Villepin believes that the current French political scene lacks balance, comparing the situation to a car with only the accelerator pedal: “We are a car that only has one tool, one organ. : the accelerator pedal. On the international level, de Villepin spoke about an imminent “confrontation of the world”, speaking of a competition between models, particularly American and Chinese. He describes this confrontation as a “battle of models” which will reshape global dynamics. Still according to de Villepin, this conflict of models raises fundamental questions about the existence of the “universal man” and about mutual understanding between nations.
