In Dakar, a study carried out at the Idrissa Pouye General Hospital (HOGIP) in Grand-Yoff highlights the vulnerability of pupils and students to motorcycle accidents, with an alarming rate of 32.6% of victims coming from this group. socio-professional. This figure reveals the worrying impact of the use of two-wheelers as a means of transport in the city, contributing to an increase in injuries, particularly among pedestrians.

The analysis, of a prospective, analytical, descriptive and monocentric nature, was carried out over a period of six months, from January 1 to June 30, 2023. It was presented during the scientific days organized by the Collective of Physicians in Specialization (Comes ), on January 16 and 17 in Dakar. The aim of this study was to examine the epidemiological and diagnostic aspects of injuries related to road accidents involving motorcyclists.

According to the study shared by our colleagues at Sud Quotidien, during this period, 270 patients were admitted to hospital for accidents involving two-wheelers. The report highlights a male predominance, with 60.37% of victims, and a notable representation of young adults, at 42.60%. Accidents mainly occur between noon and 6 p.m., representing 31.11% of cases, and direct impact is identified as the most commonly observed collision mechanism, at 88.10%.

The majority of the injured, or 84.80%, were taken to hospital by family or third parties. Fractures are the most commonly encountered injuries, constituting 40% of cases, with a high incidence on the lower limbs, reaching 68.89% of victims. Le Sud Quotidien also specified that these elements were discussed during the scientific days, where other themes such as low back pain, emerging diseases and mental health were addressed.
