US to ban common dye

This is the dye “Red No 3”, known in Europe under the name Erythrosine (E127). In the United States, this dye is used to color many foods but also cough syrups.

The ban could be announced this Wednesday. The dye has been banned in cosmetics in the United States for 20 years. Laboratory research has shown that it could be linked to the development of tumors.
