Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko was received in audience by the Mauritanian president and president of the African Union on January 14, 2025. At the heart of the discussions, strategic issues of bilateral cooperation, notably energy, fishing and cross-border infrastructure.
The Mauritanian president and current president of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, received this Tuesday at the presidential palace in Nouakchott a large Senegalese delegation led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
The meeting, which began in an expanded format before continuing with a one-on-one interview, made it possible to address several strategic issues of bilateral cooperation. The discussions focused in particular on energy, hydrocarbons, fishing, and transport infrastructure – in particular the bridge project to connect the two countries – as well as on the management of the Organization for the Development of the River Senegal (OMVS).
On the Senegalese side, the delegation notably included Yassine Fall, Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, General Jean-Baptiste Tine, Minister of the Interior, and Birame Soulèye Diop, Minister of Energy. The Mauritanian side was represented among others by the Ministers of the Interior, Mohammed Ahmed Ould Mohammed Al-Amin, and of Energy and Oil, Mohammed Ould Khaled.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Sonko welcomed “ the strong cohesion of views » between the two countries. He also highlighted Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.
The Senegalese Prime Minister has been making a 72-hour visit to Nouakchott since Sunday.
