Chad: 12 dead in the capsizing of a canoe | APAnews

The victims were returning from a funeral ceremony in the town of Mandelia, 60km from N’Djamena.

A capsizing on the Chari River, in the Mandelia region, caused around ten deaths. The sinking, which occurred on the evening of January 9, 2025, was only made public on January 14 by the Movement for Democracy and Socialism in Chad (MDST).

In a press release received by APA, the party indicates that the victims were returning from a funeral ceremony in a neighboring village. The canoe was carrying 24 people, according to the document. Twelve of them, including babies, drowned. Three bodies were recovered, but nine remain unfound.
