An elderly woman saved from the flames by an off-duty firefighter who was with her neighbors

A fire broke out on the evening of Friday January 10, 2025, at a place called Saint-Urbain in Campagnac, in Lozère. The rapid and courageous intervention of a nearby Lozère firefighter made it possible to save a 94-year-old woman who was trapped in her home.

A life-saving intervention

Around 11 p.m., a fire broke out in a house in this small hamlet, mobilizing 25 firefighters from the emergency centers of Saint-Geniez-d'Olt-et-d'Aubrac, Saint-Laurent-d'Olt and . As Centre-Presse-Aveyron reports, among them, a Lozère firefighter, who was then with neighbors, reacted without delay.

The latter, who was not on duty, broke a window of the burning house to help the nonagenarian. Thanks to his composure and quick action, the victim was extracted safely. According to emergency services, she was only slightly bothered by the fumes.

A seriously damaged house

Despite the efforts of firefighters, the roof of the house could not be saved and collapsed under the intensity of the flames. The origin of the fire is not yet known and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of this incident.
