the new technological battle at CES 2025

CES 2025, the annual high mass of innovation in Las Vegas, is putting connected glasses in the spotlight this year. Increasingly discreet and efficient, these “smart glasses” are attracting enthusiasm from manufacturers and consumers.

The first generations of connected glasses, like Google Glass or Epson’s Moverio, were often bulky and unattractive. Today, the design has evolved. The models blend into the crowd with frames that imitate classic glasses. The Ray-Ban Meta are a striking example, combining aesthetics and practicality.

But behind this discretion, the functionalities continue to expand. Real-time translation, video recording, GPS or even invisible teleprompter, etc. The possibilities offered by these devices are more and more impressive.

A booming market

According to a study by MarketsandMarkets, the development of augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI) and technological miniaturization is propelling innovation in this area. However, each manufacturer must make choices: favor appearance or focus on advanced features.

Some, like Meta, focus on accessibility with affordable glasses starting at $300. Others, like XReal, offer more technological products, capable of projecting a virtual screen directly into the field of vision.

Varied approaches to seduce

Among the most anticipated new products, Halliday and Even Realities compete in ingenuity with glasses offering subtle and utilitarian augmented reality. These models allow, for example, to read notes discreetly or translate a live conversation. Their philosophy? “Eyeglasses that are above all aesthetic, but which add real value to everyday life,” explains Carter Hou, from Halliday.

For others, simplicity is key. Tom Ouyang of Even Realities sums it up: “Glasses are made for the eyes, not the ears. » No speakers or camera, but targeted and practical augmented reality.

A future to be defined

If connected glasses are attractive with their advances, challenges remain, in particular that of price and the integration of complex functionalities without compromising the design. The next models, like the Meta Orion expected in 2027, already promise to push the limits further.

One thing is certain, connected glasses are no longer just gadgets. They embody a new vision of wearable technology, at the crossroads of style and utility. The market, still young, is only beginning to reveal its potential.
