Hockey: Five match suspension against Sakari Manninen

The single judge delivered his verdict early Friday evening in the Sakari Manninen case. The Genève-Servette Top Scorer was given a five-match suspension, which some consider too lenient, as well as a fine of 7,500 Swiss francs for hitting linesman Georges Huguet in the back with a stick on Wednesday in Zug.

The Finn’s action was classified in category III, the highest level, which implies a minimum suspension of five matches. The single judge did not see fit to impose a more significant sanction against the Eagles striker.

In his decision, he highlights that Sakari Manninen should have seen the linesman and that his action harmed the physical integrity of the referee, although he was not seriously injured.

The report also mentions that the accused, Sakari Manninen, immediately apologized for an action he regretted. This was taken into account when making a final decision, as was the player’s clean record since arriving in Switzerland in 2023.

Genève-Servette now has five days to appeal against this judgment.
