Claudia Iacono’s funeral celebrated under police surveillance

Several dozen people attended the funeral of Claudia Iacono on Wednesday afternoon, which took place at Saint-Viateur Church, located on Laurier Avenue West, in Outremont.

Posted at 4:38 p.m.

Mme Iacono, 39, was shot and killed while driving her vehicle in the parking lot of her hair salon on rue Jean-Talon Ouest, near rue de la Savane, in the Côte-des -Neiges, in Montreal.

Mme Iacono was the spouse of Antonio Gallo, one of the sons of Moreno Gallo, an influential member of the Montreal mafia shot and killed in a pizzeria in Acapulco, Mexico, in 2013.

Major Crimes investigators from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) are trying to elucidate the homicide of Mme Iacono and the hypothesis that would be favored at present, both in the police environment and in the criminal environment, is that the mother of the family was the victim of a crime committed in retaliation for the attempted murder of Leonardo Rizzuto which occurred at the half-March.

Leonardo Rizzuto, youngest son of former mob boss Vito Rizzuto, was alone in his vehicle on Highway 440 near Highway 13 in when a Porsche Macan drove slowly past him and that one of the occupants opened fire, hitting the victim in the legs and one shoulder.

According to the police, the attack against Leonardo Rizzuto would be part of a conflict between the clan of the Sicilians of the mafia and a Montreal organized crime group for the control of illegal sports betting and loan sharking.

The funeral of M.me Iacono took place under some police presence.

At least four limos carrying family members and loved ones followed the hearse to Claudia Iacono’s final resting place.

Members of SPVM intelligence were on hand to photograph anyone entering or leaving the church.

The police and the criminal community expect further violent events among high-level organized crime following the attempted murder of Leonardo Rizzuto and the assassination of Mme Iacono.
