Alexandre Carrier compares Kaiden Guhle to Mattias Ekholm

The majority of Montreal Canadiens fans were happy to learn that their club acquired Alexandre Carrier in exchange for Justin Barron, one for one.

Carrier is more defensively responsible and involved than Barron. And despite the upside interesting offensive from the Quebecer, Barron's creativity with the puck could be impressive.

The fact remains that the defensive brigade has solidified itself on the side with its acquisition.

After playing two games with his new team, the Quebec native is loving his experience so far.

But above all he is very impressed by his new teammate and partner on the blue line: Kaiden Guhle.

After Saturday's game against the Detroit Red Wings, Carrier spoke to the media and was asked how he found his new teammate.

Let's just say he only had good words.

We can also learn more about this post-match interview in this recent text from Arpon Basu for his Canadiens Weekly Notebook.

Basically, Carrier was asked how he compared Guhle to Jérémy Lauzon, his partner for some time when they played in Nashville.

Without wishing to disrespect Lauzon, who is a very good defensive and physical defender, Carrier added by saying that Guhle actually reminded him of another former teammate.

He sees Mattias Ekholm in him, one of the best defensive defensemen in the NHL in recent years who also has a fairly big size (6 feet 5 inches and 225 pounds).

“He reminds me a lot of Mattias Ekholm. My first two years were with him and to say that from a guy only 22 years old, I was impressed yesterday (Friday) and today (Saturday) again. I knew his game, but not that much. » – Alexandre Carrier

Indeed, the fact that he says that about Guhle, who is only 22 years old, says a lot about his game, but especially about his promising future.

The new CH defender knows what he is talking about, since he played with Ekholm in his first two years.

He knows Ekholm is elite defensively and he didn't compare Guhle to Ekholm for nothing.

Carrier had more to say about his partner on the blue line.

He especially praised his game managementor his management of the game. He realizes how intelligent Guhle is with the puck and that he rarely gets into trouble.

He keeps things simple and it pays off.

Carrier really sees something great in Guhle and that bodes well for the future.

This defensive duo is very interesting and seems to complement each other wonderfully.

Phew… That’s “rough”.

– John Tavares is part of the elite, having scored 200 goals with two different teams.

– The Devils continue to taunt their opponents. The Rangers are eating it all up on the Devils Twitter page.

– Great story.

– He didn't waste any time.
