Against the installation of a station, the collective in the street calls on Ousmane Sonko

This Sunday, the residents of Kabatoky took to the streets to express their discontent. Under the banner of the Collective for the Defense of Kabatoky Interests (CDIK), they organized a peaceful march to protest against the installation of a station located between two educational establishments, a decision that they consider inadequate and harmful.

During this mobilization, Abdoulaye Diallo, coordinator of the collective, strongly criticized a deliberation adopted on September 26, 2024 by the municipal council. This decision, signed by Mayor Serigne Mboup, allocates three hectares of land to the Chamber of Commerce, an act that the collective considers to be contrary to the interests of the inhabitants of Kabatoky. The demonstrators are demanding a review of this deliberation and consideration of local concerns in the management of public lands.

» The Collective for the Defense of Kabatoki Interests (CDIK) strongly expresses a peaceful march to strongly express its strong opposition to the abuses observed in the land management of the commune of Kaolack under the administration of Mayor Serigne Mboup. We particularly denounce the deliberation adopted on September 26, 2024 by the municipal council and signed by the Mayor, allocating 3 hectares of land to the Chamber of Commerce, headed by the latter. This act illustrates a blatant conflict of interest and a disregard for the principles of transparency and fairness, to the detriment of the rights of the people of Kabatoki. This land, located behind the Middle School (CEM), has long been reserved by the educational community for the extension of the establishment and the construction of a mixed high school. “

The Collective, to emphasize that “despite the recurring approaches carried out by the Parents' Association and the correspondence addressed to the municipal authorities, the aspirations of the populations have been ignored. Instead, the Mayor imposes a project to establish an economic activity zone or a truck parking area. This decision is not only incompatible with the immediate school environment, but it also exposes students and residents to major risks of insecurity and unrest. “

This is why, “the CDIK demands the immediate cancellation of the deliberation of September 26, 2024 and the relocation of the proposed project to a suitable area, far from schools and homes. “

At the same time, he calls for “total transparency in the current subdivision process, including the publication of the subdivision plan, the active involvement of the neighborhood council, and guarantees of fairness in the allocation of plots. These steps are essential so that the populations, particularly the young families of Kabatoki, can fully benefit from these local development opportunities. »

Very angry, the collective calls on the state authorities before moving up a gear.

“We are directly calling on the state authorities, in particular the Ministry of Territorial Communities, the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic, so that they intervene urgently to preserve the interests of the populations of Kabatoki. We also deplore violations of the principles of decentralization and participatory democracy, characterized by the exclusion of the neighborhood delegate and the neighborhood council in decisions impacting our community.

The CDIK calls on the competent authorities to secure the school environment and to safeguard the spaces necessary for the extension of the CEM and the construction of a mixed high school. We demand a new deliberation in favor of these priority projects, or, failing that, the reestablishment of the old deliberation of 1998, which already guaranteed these rights. “
