The American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, highlighted before the United Nations Security Council the launch by Morocco and the United States of the UN Group of Friends on Artificial Intelligence to promote and coordinate efforts in digital cooperation, particularly with regard to AI.
“This summer, the United States and Morocco created a Group at the United Nations, open to all member states, where experts from all regions share best practices for the adoption of Artificial Intelligence,” said Mr. Blinken, who chaired a recent ministerial debate at the Security Council on the role of Artificial Intelligence in maintaining international peace and security.
“This is real progress,” noted the head of American diplomacy during this meeting organized by the United States, which holds the presidency of the Council for the month of December, with a view to promoting reflection on emerging technologies. and the efforts undertaken by Member States to advance the global dialogue on the opportunities and challenges they present.
Last July, Morocco's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Omar Hilale, with his American counterpart, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, launched the Group of Friends on Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development, which currently brings together more than 70 member states a few months after its creation.
The launch of this Group comes following the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the first UN resolution on AI 78/265, initially co-facilitated by Morocco and the United States and co-sponsored by 125 member states until the day of its adoption.
According to a report published by the French Development Agency (AFD) last November, entitled “AI Investment Potential Index (AIIPI)”, Morocco is ranked first African destination offering the best investment potential in the field of intelligence. artificial.
