Morocco allocates 11 billion dirhams to the modernization of urban buses before the World Cup

Spanning the period 2025-2029, this program provides for the acquisition of new generation buses equipped with advanced operating support and passenger information systems (SAEIV). These vehicles will also integrate modern electronic ticketing solutions. The related infrastructure will be redesigned, with the development of depots, bus stops and maintenance centers, thus guaranteeing optimal service for users.

This project, the result of a careful analysis of past failures, emphasizes optimized management. Standardized technical files have been prepared to guide local authorities in adapting equipment to local realities, ensuring sustainable financial balance and increased quality of service.

The financing of this program is based on a public-private partnership model, associating the Support Fund for Urban and Interurban Road Transport Reforms (FRAT) and regional councils. The latter will contribute 3.66 billion dirhams, representing one third of the overall budget, while the Ministry of the Interior will finance the remaining two thirds (7.32 billion dirhams).

As part of this partnership, the Ministries of the Interior and of Economy and Finance have also increased their annual contribution to the FRAT, bringing their combined support to 3 billion dirhams per year.

Beyond the tangible improvement of transport services, this program aims to stimulate economic and social dynamics. Training initiatives aimed at local managers and development companies aim to strengthen skills and guarantee rigorous monitoring of operations.
