VIDEO | A fire devastates a business in Maskinongé

A very well-known family business from Maskinongé in Mauricie fell prey to a violent fire on Saturday, a few days before Christmas.

“The firefighters intervened so quickly, fortunately the fire station is at the corner of the factory because the fire spread quickly,” explained Jonathan Lessard, the owner of Transport JDL, a Louiseville company located near the scene of the the fire.

The fire broke out around 12:45 p.m., reports Alain Béland, director of the Louiseville fire safety service. The scale of the flames required the intervention of firefighters from several neighboring municipalities.

“We quickly came to help moving trailers to avoid the risk of spreading, because the fire was moving towards the trucks,” added Jonathan Lessard.

According to our information, the firefighters had to preventively water a building in which there were large quantities of cardboard. No other houses would have been affected since the factory was in an agricultural area, surrounded by fields.

“Due to the fire currently taking place in the municipality, it is normal that the water is cloudy and/or colored and that the pressure is greatly reduced,” declared the municipality of Maskinongé in a publication on Facebook .

Route 138 was closed in the area to allow firefighters to carry out their intervention, confirmed the Sûreté du Québec.

Hydro-Québec had to carry out power cuts, meaning that 2,000 customers were deprived of electricity.
