Election – General Assembly of the Fencing Federation: Cécile Faye succeeds Mbagnick Ndiaye – Lequotidien

After several positions of responsibility within the Senegalese Fencing Federation, Ms. Cécile Faye was appointed yesterday to head the federal body. She succeeds Mbagnick Ndiaye who did not wish to run for another term. By Woury DIALLO –

Ms. Cécile Faye was appointed head of the Senegalese Fencing Federation, following the elective general assembly held yesterday at the headquarters of the federal body. With three candidates at the start, Cécile Faye, from the Don Boscon club, was finally elected, to the detriment of Mbagnick Sène from the Lions Club, after the withdrawal of Alioune Thiam from the Grand-Dakar Club. She thus succeeds Mbagnick Ndiaye, who did not wish to run for another mandate. After several years at the head of the Federation, the former Minister of Sports decided to step down to concentrate fully on his duties as President of the African Fencing Confederation (Cae), a position to which he has just been reappointed for a new term. A consecration therefore for a lady who has long campaigned within the Senegalese Fencing Federation, not to say in the associative movement. Former vice-president of the Fencing Federation, retired professor of physical education and sports, Deputy Secretary General of Cnoss, Ms. Faye will lead the destiny of the discipline for the next four years.

“Unity is essential to continue to develop and promote the discipline”
Representative of the Minister of Sports, the Director of Physical and Sports Activities (Daps), Gilbert Mbengue, emphasized unity. “You have all decided to associate freely within this structure, which demonstrates a common desire to live and work together. This unity is essential to continue to develop and promote the discipline, while preserving the spirit of cohesion that drives you,” he said.

The Secretary General of Cnoss, Seydina Diagne, did not fail to praise the work carried out by the former president. “It’s a very solemn moment. Solemn in the sense that President Magnick Ndiaye, who has led this Federation since the death of Abdou Wahab Ba, made the decision to say: “I want to leave the head of the Federation, but I remain in the great fencing family …” We can send you all our congratulations and express our deep satisfaction. Very sincerely, you are a man who has enormously, enormously, enormously contributed to fencing, but also to sport in general, through your actions,” he will say, before adding: “You have held positions very important within the Ministry of Sports, where you went from agent to minister. Your commitment to this department and your political career are exemplary. And today, the fact that you have led this confederation for so many years, with several successive re-elections, testifies to your leadership and your dedication.

“Rely on young people to make Senegal shine at the point of the sword”
For the new president of the Fencing Federation, it will be a matter of continuity since she already knows the house. “It is with great pride that I welcome this election at the head of the Senegalese Fencing Federation. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this election. For me, it is a continuity because having been within the Federation since its creation in 1997. Since then, I have not left it until my last position as vice-president,” reacted the new patron saint of Senegalese fencing.
As for future projects, Ms. Faye intends to focus on young people. “We must continue the work we are doing, focusing on young people. We are preparing for the Youth Olympic Games and the basis of all this is young people. The vision is to rely on young people to make Senegal shine at the point of the sword, by going to schools,” underlines the president. Beyond that, she adds, “we will continue the training of technical officials, train referees, go to the regions. We are only in three regions. I hope that at the next General Assembly we will say that we have doubled or tripled this number. It’s the same thing for clubs.” It is therefore a new page that opens for the Senegalese fencing family, with the election of a president, but also of a new office responsible for leading the destiny of the discipline for the next four years.
