Essaouira: Signature of an agreement worth 2.3 billion dirhams to relaunch the Mogador Station

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired, Thursday in Essaouira, the signing ceremony of an agreement for the development of the Mogador tourist resort, in the presence of Mr. André Azoulay, Advisor to His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This major project, supported by an investment of 2.3 billion dirhams, is part of the High Royal Guidelines aimed at making tourism a central lever of socio-economic development.

The agreement, signed with a consortium of Middle Eastern investors led by Naguib Sawiris, Hussain Al Nowais and Hossam El Shaer, provides for the completion of 50% of investments by 2030. The project aims to increase the capacity of city accommodation to 3,700 beds, an increase of 35% compared to the existing one, while generating 20,000 direct jobs and indirect.

The Mogador Station will include the extension of the Sofitel hotel, the creation of three seaside hotels, a Club Med, a Beach Club, a leisure village and a golf course. This diversification responds to a dual demand: that of cultural tourism and that of board sports enthusiasts, thus strengthening the attractiveness of Essaouira.

In his speech, Akhannouch stressed that this strategic project will help consolidate Morocco’s position as a major tourist destination. He recalled HM King Mohammed VI’s call to promote the Atlantic coast to make it a space of economic and cultural influence on a continental and international scale.

The government, he specified, is committed to supporting investors through concrete tools and support mechanisms, thus facilitating the realization of structuring projects in the tourism sector and in other value chains generating jobs.
