The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Monday that a humanitarian team had managed to visit one of the only functioning hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip, finding “appalling” conditions there.

The Kamal Adwan hospital is located in Beit Lahia, in the north of the Gaza Strip where the Israeli army has been carrying out military operations for several weeks, the objective of which is, according to it, to prevent the regrouping of Hamas fighters. .
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in X that after several attempts, a team managed to access the site “two days ago, amid hostilities and explosions near the hospital.” .
The team, he said, “delivered 5,000 liters of fuel, food and medicine, and transferred three patients and six attendants to Al-Chifa”, the main hospital in the Gaza Strip.
“The conditions in the hospital are simply appalling,” he denounced, explaining in particular that “recent attacks have further damaged the oxygen supply, generators and broken windows and doors of patient rooms.”
A WHO mission managed to access the hospital on November 30, after weeks of unsuccessful attempts, providing aid via an international emergency team including surgeons and other specialists. But they had to flee the scene on December 6 due to security concerns.
“There are no longer any specialized staff for surgical and maternal care in the hospital,” wrote Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“We urge protection of health care and an end to this hell! Ceasefire!” he said again.
