gang accused of attacking Boa bank in revenge

One Friday in January 2020, M. Diallo, I. Diallo, J. Amoussou, F. Seck and A. Samb boarded from Dakar for Mboro. Objective: rob the local Boa agency. According to L’Observateur, taken up by Seneweb, the first, who enlisted the others, is the mastermind of this disastrous operation. His motive: to take revenge on the bank which fired him after a few months of service.

That Friday, the gang landed in Tivaouane in the evening. He spends the night in the religious city before setting off again the next day. Arriving at their destination at 11 a.m., the criminals carried out a brief search of the bank located in an isolated place in the city. They take action a few hours later, without waiting until nightfall.

One of the gang members comes to the cash register, pretending to make a withdrawal. At the same time, his acolytes neutralize the security guard using a gas bomb. Believing the path is clear, the group hopes to be able to use CFA franc notes. Unlucky, the gang comes up against strong resistance from other security agents.

Alerted, the gendarmerie deployed to the scene. The criminals will manage to escape before the Pandoras arrive. The open investigation will make it possible to get hold of the burglars, betrayed by the banking establishment’s surveillance cameras.

This account of the accusation, taken up by L’Observateur, is slightly contested by the accused who will be arrested, placed under arrest warrant and tried four years later for criminal association, attempted theft in a meeting committed with the use of weapons and violence.

The one presented as the mastermind (Mr. Diallo) admitted the facts before the criminal chamber. But he tried to demonstrate that the attack was not planned from Dakar and to clear his alleged acolytes. According to him, when they left the capital, they had no idea of his plans. They thought they were going to look for work at the Ics of Mboro.

“When we arrived at Boa, the idea came to me to attack the bank that fired me to take revenge,” rewinds the defendant. I spoke about it to I. Diallo who gave me a denial. It was me who engineered all this, I. Diallo and the others had nothing to do with it.”

The other defendants sounded the same trumpet. But the prosecutor is not of this opinion. He declared, according to L’Observateur, that “the facts of attempted robbery in a meeting with violence and use of weapons are well established because [l’]intention [des prévenus] was evident. Stressing that when they left Dakar they were armed with gas bombs, machetes and knives “for the sole purpose of attacking the bank”.

As a result, the public prosecutor requested 15 years against the accused. “The matter is under advisement for December 23,” concludes the journal of the Future Media Group.
