Al Jazeera announces that one of its journalists was killed in Israeli strike in Gaza

The Qatari channel Al Jazeera announced this Sunday that one of its journalists had been killed in an Israeli strike on the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army is at war against the Palestinian movement Hamas. “Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed al-Louh was killed today, Sunday, in an Israeli bombing”the channel said, specifying that the strike had targeted the Nusseirat refugee camp, in the center of the besieged territory. In a statement, she condemned “with the greatest firmness” the “targeted killing” of its journalist by the «forces d’occupation».

The spokesperson for the Gaza Civil Defense, Mahmoud Bassal, confirmed to AFP the death of the journalist during this strike, which also cost the lives of three Civil Defense rescuers, according to him. He added that a military plane had “targeted the Civil Defense site in the Nusseirat camp”. Contacted by AFP, the Israeli army said it was examining this information.

Ahmed al-Louh, 39, is the fifth Al Jazeera journalist killed since the start of the war in Gaza, triggered on October 7, 2023 by the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli territory. Israeli authorities have repeatedly accused Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza of being “terrorist agents”allegations constantly rejected by the channel, which accuses Israel of systematically targeting its reporters in the besieged territory.

The channel has also been banned since May from operating and broadcasting in Israel, and its local office was bombed.
