It had been thirty-one years since they had recorded an entire album together: Dr. Dre behind the console, Snoop Dogg behind the microphone. And this Friday, December 13 at 8 a.m., their second album, Missionarywas broadcast on all streaming platforms. On November 23, 1993, the release of Doggystyle had imposed on the world the rapper's slender silhouette and his relaxed flow. Dr. Dre's production combining the sticky funk of George Clinton with gang culture immediately dominated the charts (Doggystyle was the first rap album to remain number 1 in the magazine Billboard). Since then, Snoop Dogg has become a popular icon, both an actor and public entertainer, commentator for NBC during the Paris Olympic Games during the summer. Dr. Dre, for his part, is a successful billionaire, who made his fortune creating Beats headphones and producing music for his friends, Eminem and 50 Cent, both of whom are featured on this new album.
Dre and Snoop, one from Compton, the other from Long Beach (California), never lost touch. Snoop Doggy Dogg, who had to give up part of his artist name to free himself from the influence of their first label Death Row (which he has since bought), continued to participate in his mentor's projects. The day before the album's release, the rapper, who had so far failed us, gave an exclusive interview to Monde by videoconference from a recording studio in Inglewood, Los Angeles.
