(Montreal) The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) arrested on Wednesday morning a very young man from Rivière-du-Loup who, clearly, had not learned from his mistakes.

The young man would have published, according to Sergeant Charles Poirier of the RCMP, “hundreds of hateful messages since July 2023 on the Telegram and X platforms. These were always messages that targeted Jewish communities, racialized communities and LGBTQ communities. “.
However, this young man had already been arrested the first time, then released on conditions on February 8 for having done essentially the same thing. “He had been arrested, questioned and released on a promise to appear and under conditions, but not conditions imposed by the Court, but conditions imposed by us, the police, but he continued to publish hateful content on his social networks following this intervention,” said Sergeant Poirier.
He specified that he was a minor at the time of this first arrest in February 2024, but that he is no longer so now. This situation means that one cannot make their identity public.
The young man was not facing charges at that time, as the investigation was still ongoing, but this time he will face charges of willfully fomenting hatred and willfully fomenting anti-Semitism, two offenses listed in the Criminal Code. The maximum penalty the suspect faces in both cases is two years’ imprisonment.
According to Sergeant Poirier, he had “a few hundred subscribers. Is it a big audience? Maybe not, but since he only distributed hateful publications, it’s still quite worrying because who subscribes to that? These are people who want to consume the same type of content. »
