focus on human rights and youth employment

The President of Senegal, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar FAYE, led the Council of Ministers on December 11, 2024 at the Palais de la République. The meeting began with a look back at International Human Rights Day celebrated the day before, highlighting Senegal’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of human rights. The President recalled the progress, notably the creation of the National Human Rights Commission.

He mandated the Minister of Justice to complete the process of appointing members of this commission by the end of January 2025, and requested increased budgetary resources for this strategic institution which must develop a five-year plan aligned with the National Development Vision .

The President highlighted the national priority of youth employment. He asked the Prime Minister to finalize evaluations of current employability systems, and to collaborate with the private sector for an innovative professional integration strategy. He also spoke of a critical shortage of teachers, calling for a special three-year recruitment program.

Regarding the diplomatic agenda, the President insisted on intensifying cooperation with Abu Dhabi, Doha and Nouakchott. The Prime Minister stressed the need to have qualified human resources to succeed in the Senegal 2050 Agenda. The rationalization of public finances remains a priority, with a focus on projects with strong economic and social impact.

UNDER COMMUNICATIONS FROM MINISTERS: Updates were provided on mining audits, international ecological conferences and the agricultural situation.

AS TO THE TEXTS: The Council approved important legislative revisions, in particular concerning the Economic and Social Council and the High Council of Territorial Communities.
