What reception will the Vaudois deputies give to the 2025 budget? Difficult to answer this question. Last October, the State Councilor in charge of Finance and Agriculture, Valérie Dittli, presented to the press a project with a deficit of 303 million francs, forcing the government to draw on its reserves to move towards the so-called limit of “little balance”. The first debates are held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Grand Council, in a particular context.

Because before delving into the budget, deputies will have to decide on two objects linked to taxation. The first concerns the raising of the inheritance tax threshold from 250,000 to 1 million francs. And the second concerns the Council of State’s proposal to reduce cantonal income tax by an additional 0.5% from January 1, 2025, to reach a reduction of 4% since the start of this legislature. “Thus, we are getting closer to our objective of bringing this reduction to 5% until 2027,” explains Valérie Dittli. This debate is part of a form of counter-project initiated by Vaud economic circles who are calling for a 12% reduction in cantonal tax.
