“It was incredible”… The “Hulk of the Woods” broke the world record for pull-ups

Him, tired? “No, it’s fine. I don’t even have too much pain,” smiles Rémi Girard, contacted this Monday morning by 20 Minutes. Since the day before, this resident of Perrouse (Haute-Saône), a small town between Besançon and Vesoul, is the new world record holder for pull-ups in twenty-four hours. He made 9,470!

“I had planned to do a little more but by the end my forearms were starting to tense up. I preferred to slow down a little,” says this 25-year-old forestry worker at the National Forestry Office (ONF) modestly. Instead of the 7 pull-ups per minute that he had imposed on himself “for 18:30 hours”, he ended up with “4 to 6 during the last hours”.

“You shouldn’t think too much or doubt”

The hardest part was then over. At night. “From 3 to 7 a.m., it was an ordeal because psychologically, I am used to being in deep sleep. I didn't have to think too much or doubt: I had my eye on the clock and I started again”, remembers the hero of the weekend, well supported by his family, friends and “curious people” at the “Lyberty Gym” of the town of Rioz.

As expected, his sister massaged him regularly and his mother-in-law took care of the food. “Beef, rice, food supplements, water and a little coke,” he explains, admitting to having gone to the toilet several times. “They were four meters from the bar, it was going fast! »

Eight judges took turns and two cameras filmed his feat, which should make it possible to validate the record with the Guinness book. “I'm not worried. I had respected everything so it should be fine,” says Rémi Girard who fully realizes his performance. “It’s incredible and I’m enjoying it because I worked so hard on it… I wasn’t thinking about failure. Now the guy who wants to overtake me will have to hold on! »

The “Hulk of the Woods” as he is sometimes nicknamed at home, does not intend to stop there. “I'm thinking of tackling the record for pull-ups in twelve hours. It's 5,746. We'll have to go faster but I've already done it in training. That doesn't worry me. » This next attempt could take place “in three months”. By the time he recovers a little, anyway…
