Former England international Frank Lampard was named coach of Coventry City on Thursday, currently 17th in the Championship (2nd English division), more than a year after an interim period at Chelsea, the club where he shone as a player.
The ex-Three Lions (106 caps) and Blues (648 matches) midfielder has signed up for two and a half years with Coventry and will be accompanied by two assistants he knows well, Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.
He will make his debut on the Sky Blues bench on Saturday (4 p.m.) against Cardiff City at home.

Coventry occupies seventeenth place in a Championship which has twenty-four teams, after having suffered eight defeats in the first seventeen matches of the season.
Ex-Chelsea glory, of which he is the top scorer in history (211 goals), Lampard launched his coaching career in the second division at Derby County in 2018.
After one season, finishing in sixth place, he returned during the summer of 2019 to Stamford Bridge, where he guided the Blues to fourth place in the Premier League. Fired in January 2021, he tried to bounce back at Everton (January 2022 to January 2023) then returned to Chelsea for a short interim period at the end of the 2022/23 season.
