First broadside in southern Quebec on Friday: here are the scenarios

Published on November 26, 2024 at 12:38 a.m.

Is a first snowfall for southern Quebec in the plans for the end of the week? Find out what are the possible scenarios associated with a system coming from Colorado…

A system that reveals itself quietly

Some people prefer to live day by day, but nothing prevents that looking a little towards the horizon, a few days further, can be interesting. For example, winter sports fans who are impatient to see the snow make its debut in southern Quebec can possibly start to rejoice… Indeed, there is something to watch for on Thursday and Friday which could bring a first snowfall to southern Quebec.

A system from Colorado would reach the Atlantic and then follow the American east coast. It will take advantage of this to intensify and fill itself with humidity. Thus, significant amounts of precipitation could be associated with it.

For southern Quebec, this system will come into operation Thursday and Friday. It could subsequently spread and continue until Saturday, in the east of the province. It could bring significant amounts of precipitation, but several scenarios are considered.

Undecided travel desires

Which trajectory will this system opt for? He seems to enjoy playing with our curiosity, because the two possible scenarios being considered right now are completely different from each other. In the first case, if its trajectory is further north, the quantities of snow received in Quebec would be greater. On the other hand, if he wants to go further south, the quantities will decrease. Several sectors could even escape unscathed.

Lucky regions in the snow lottery

At the moment, there are still a few lucky regions that could receive 10 cm or more of snow as this system passes. Estrie, Beauce and the east of the province could have a landscape adorned with white for the end of the week. Note that for eastern Quebec, the quantities received could be closer to 15 to 25 cm. But there is no need to take out the snowshoes right away because, once again, it depends on the trajectory of this system…

Despite the uncertainties linked to this system, one thing is certain: its evolution will be closely monitored by both die-hard winter sports enthusiasts and those who get angry every time they have to clear snow from their vehicle!
