Freezing rain | Slippery roads and teleworking to be preferred

Freezing rain is expected in the south of the province on Tuesday, particularly in the south of the Outaouais, on the northern crown and on the island of Montreal. Residents in these areas should opt for teleworking, if possible, according to Environment Canada.

Roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots could become icy Tuesday morning, Environment Canada says in a warning. The heaviest precipitation should affect Laval and Saint-Jérôme. The black ice should fall on Montreal around 9 a.m., and persist until the middle of the day. It will be a maximum of 7 degrees during the day in the metropolis, then a minimum of 2 degrees during the night.

“It is possible that the roads will remain dangerous for a good part of the morning. Of course, those who can telework should do so, because there is a small possibility that the ice will start before rush hour,” explains meteorologist Dominic Martel.

On Thursday, a system should be implemented throughout Quebec. As this remains unpredictable, we still do not know whether it will bring rain or snow.

“There is a lot of uncertainty with this system. There could be a negligible amount of precipitation or even a rash of snow,” says Mr. Martel.

With a high degree of certainty, Environment Canada predicts that snow will fall on the lower North Shore and in eastern Gaspésie.
