It only took one turn for Stéphane Theurillat to join the Jura Government. The centrist from Porrentruy was elected on Sunday to succeed PLR Jacques Gerber, Minister of the Economy and Health appointed in September as delegate of the Federal Council for Ukraine. The votes obtained in his town, Porrentruy, allowed him at the end of the suspense to exceed the absolute majority of 85 votes (50.4%). His party, given the big favorite from the start of the campaign, thus regains the second seat it had lost after the election of Charles Juillard to the Council of States in 2019. The Green Pauline Godat collected 38.1% of votes, and the member of the HelvEthica movement, Pascal Prince, 11.5%.
After the PLR had given up defending Jacques Gerber’s seat, a right-wing alliance was formed to support Ajoulot. “I think it worked well, but I was able to rally votes across the entire political spectrum,” analyzed the future minister after the announcement of the results. “I’m very happy to have passed in just one lap, which I didn’t necessarily expect. I am very grateful to the population who, in my opinion, have expressed their desire for better financial control and a restructuring of the State.”
