The National Rally, the Republican Right, Renaissance… Almost the entire political class castigated the bill tabled by LFI deputy from the North Ugo Bernalicis, aiming to eliminate the offense of glorifying terrorism created by a 2014 law.
And for good reason, the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau judged this proposal on X as “despicable”.
Same story for Ensemble des Hauts-de-Seine MP Prisca Thevenot, former government spokesperson, believing that the leader of the Insoumis and his group of deputies “remind us that they are a movement with an anti- -France”
“A proposed law of shame. One more infamy of the Insoumis”, for his part blamed the president of the UDR group Éric Ciotti, adding to Bruno Retailleau's tweet that he was “totally in agreement but why did you ally with the Insoumis to prevent the victory of the union of the rights in the second round of the Legislative elections?
“6 days after the commemorations of the terrible Islamist attacks of November 13 which cost the lives of 130 French people, La France Insoumise tabled this bill. Jean-Luc Mélenchon: how far will your elected officials go in the abject?”, castigated the president of Hauts-de-France Xavier Bertrand (LR).
Another elected official who reacted, the RN deputy for Gironde Edwige Diaz: “So it was very true! LFI has just tabled a bill aimed at “repealing the offense of advocating terrorism from the penal code”! What's next? Tax exemption for donations to Hamas? These people are really dangerous!”, she commented.
According to Ugo Bernalicis, this text is nevertheless part of “a desire to preserve freedom of expression and particularly political debate from any intrusion by repressive institutions, which cannot be confused in this matter with the necessary fight against acts of terrorism “.
