REPORT – Stuck on the A36 near Montbéliard because of snow

The snow gives color to winter and the approaching Christmas holidays, but this Thursday evening, it transformed the lives of several hundred motorists and heavy goods vehicle drivers into a real ordeal. Because of the storm Caetano which affects the country, trucks and cars were blocked overnight for at least 4 km on the A36 in the Montbéliard-Besançon direction. , the Territoire de and Haute-Saône have been put into orange snow-ice warning by Météo .

This Friday early in the morning, the situation had not changed much. The circulation of heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes has been banned on the A36 in both directions, between (68) and Saint-Vit (25) until 10:00 a.m. via the prefecture of the Eastern defense and security zone. At Dorans, at 8:30 a.m., traffic was at a standstill in the direction of Belfort towards Montbéliard, with the engines turned off.

“I have something to eat in the trunk.”

For several hours, the drivers had to be patient and their emotions wavered between laughter and weariness. Stopped on the track, Xavier chats with his daughter on Whatsapp, while Matéo is sorry to be stuck 2km from home. “I have groceries in the trunk, so if I have to eat, I’m good!” he adds, laughing.

In his cabin, Raphaël, a truck driver, gets information via the radio : “There would be three heavy goods vehicles stuck up there, the snowplows are on the way, but we don't know what sauce we're going to be eaten with.” As for Jacques, he listens to France Bleu in his car and he is surprised and amused to meet a journalist from France Bleu Belfort Montbéliard, shipwrecked, like him.
