This week, the company behind those cute little pots of whipped cream we’ve been seeing everywhere had to apologize to its community. While this brand relies on the use of proven ingredients for products that directly promote skin health, a manufacturing glitch forced Drunk Elephant to initiate a recall among their consumers.

Indeed, a small number of copies of Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, Protini Polypeptide Cream and Lala Retro Whipped Cream, including samples of Lala cream found inside the carton of O-Bloos Rosi Drops , are recalled by the company.

Drunk Elephant released a statement explaining the situation on Instagram:

“The formulation of certain quantities of these products was compromised due to isolated confusion between preservatives and surfactants during production. The quality of our products and your satisfaction are important to us, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Here’s why it’s problematic: according to Alluresurfactants are commonly added to hair and skin care products for their cleansing properties; they allow products to emulsify and foam. Preservatives are additives that prevent microorganisms from contaminating a product or growing there over time. So, reversing the two components can have unwanted effects on the skin since they do not serve the same purpose.

As it happens, the ingredient Microkill COS, a patented combination of three different preservatives, was found in Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, although it is not normally listed among the product’s ingredients. “Phenoxyethanol and chlorphenesin [qui font partie de la combinaison] can be irritating to some people’s skin,” says cosmetic chemist Perry Romanowski. Allure.

Drunk Elephant is directing fans to their website for more information and to get refunds and replacements for their products – hoping the message reaches everyone whose skin care is affected!
