Aussonne, Cazères, Luchon or even Aspet. The anger of farmers flared up almost everywhere in Haute-Garonne during the evening of Monday, November 18, 2024. At the call of the Departmental Federation of Farmers' Unions (FDSEA) and the Young Farmers (JA), several assembly points were set up in the department to protest against the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, but also, more generally, against the charges and the low income of farmers.

After these striking actions, a new gathering was announced in Toulouse this Tuesday, November 19. What is planned.

Three fires extinguished by firefighters

“Fires of anger” were lit on the roundabouts of several communes in Haute-Garonne, fueled by pallets, wood, etc.

Around 9:30 p.m., firefighters intervened to put out three, in the town of Cazèreson roundabouts located near the A64, and also further away, near the A61.

Promises of measures: dissatisfied farmers

Warning messages from land professionals are written on tarpaulins: “Mercosur = hormones on your plates”, we could read for example. Mannequins are hung from lampposts to represent the plight of the profession.

Ten months after the major blockages on the highways, farmers remain dissatisfied with the government's actions. As a reminder, Gabriel Attal went to the Carbonne dam where it all started last January, promising several measures.

More moves to come

These “fires of anger” are far from extinguishing. Farmers have already announced new actions planned for later in the month “with real blockages in large cities,” announced Mathieu Maronesedeputy general secretary of Young Farmers 31, contacted by Toulouse News.

In the shorter term, Rural Coordination, the 3rd agricultural union, announced a rally this Tuesday, November 19 at 10 a.m. in front of the Toulouse prefecture, as well as a blockade at the Spanish border this Wednesday, November 20, also from 10 a.m.

Contacted by Toulouse Newsthe FDSEA 31 is not announcing any new actions for this Tuesday with the JA 31.
