The regional brigade of the judicial police of Fez recently carried out a major operation, seizing 10 tonnes of rotten khlii in clandestine warehouses scattered in several districts of the city. According to Assabah this vast intervention, carried out over two days, also led to the arrest of 12 individuals linked to butchery, clandestine slaughter and the preparation of khlii.
The seizure was concentrated in areas such as the old medina, Bouazara, Jnane El Ouard and El Mariniyine, where warehouses concealed large quantities of meat unfit for consumption, including 500 kilograms from clandestine slaughter. The samples taken were sent to the National Food Safety Office (ONSSA) for analysis.
Among the arrested suspects are two brothers known for making khlii, as well as sellers and butchers, some involved in distributing these products to restaurants. The operation was carried out in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
This seizure marks a significant step forward in the fight against the production and distribution networks of various food products, recalling a similar case linked to clandestine slaughter two years ago. At the time, a vice-president of the district of Jnane El Ouard, accused of storing and marketing spoiled meat, was sentenced to prison terms ranging from 6 months to two years, before his judgment was either or. revised on appeal.
