More than 30 arrests during a major police operation in Brussels: what we know

Lhe Brussels-North police zone carried out a large-scale operation on Friday in the North district and rue de Brabant, in Brussels. During this operation, 36 people were administratively arrested in Aarschot Street. A dealer was also arrested, the police announced in a press release on Saturday.

This large-scale operation is part of the overall action plan aimed at improving security in the Northern district. The operation mainly focused on Aarschot Street, parallel to the Gare du railway tracks, characterized by activities linked to prostitution. Local police describe the situation as particularly problematic and affirm that the street in question is often the scene of violent robberies or drug trafficking.

To combat crime in this location, officers in the Brussels North police zone need an overview of dangerous individuals or criminals operating in the neighborhood and on the streets. Friday’s large-scale police intervention allowed police to supplement existing information relating to criminal cases and verify unproven information. The operation also aims to increase the visibility of the police on the streets in order to fight crime and ensure security.

Large-scale police intervention takes place alongside other initiatives and operations. Between August 15 and October 15, security operations in the Nord and Brabant district resulted in 741 administrative and judicial arrests.
