The Mazan rape trial continued on Friday in Avignon. 50 men are on trial with the victim's former husband, Dominique Pélicot, before the Vaucluse criminal court for having raped Gisèle Pelicot at her home.
The Vaucluse criminal court this week examined the case of the last seven accused in the Mazan rape trial. This tenth week was devoted to these seven men tried for aggravated rape of Gisèle Pelicot. Among them, Charly A.. The accused was only 21 years old when he went to Mazan for the first time, in January 2016. He went there six times in total, between January 2016 and June 2020, and was arrested in early 2021, at his mother's home in Carpentras. During the last meeting, Dominique Pelicot asked him with which woman he could do the same thing, and Charly A. replied his mother, the only female person in his entourage, reports 20 minutes. “I was told that she was pretending to sleep so I think she is pretending to sleep,” this 30-year-old man tried to justify. “He (Dominique Pélicot) told me that his wife would be lying down, asleep,” he assured.
In two videos, the two men are filmed talking. “And when do we fuck your mother?” asks the victim’s former husband. “If it’s not this weekend, it’s the weekend after,” replied Charly A. The latter swears that he had no intention of taking action. “Mr. Pelicot asks if I can do this on my family or someone I know. I say my mother. Like that”, he indicated before adding: “My mother, she is the first Something I thought about.”
Pills for his mother
Charly A. sent a photo of her mother to Dominique Pelicot. “Because he’s insistent,” he tried to explain. He admitted that the septuagenarian gave him two or three pills and explained to him “how to proceed”. But Charly A. assured that he threw them away before returning home. “I expressly confirm that I never gave medicine to my mother,” he explained to the judges. The discussions around his mother were a “trigger” for him. He will no longer respond to requests from Dominique Pelicot.
