Brigitte Fontaine, 85 years old, is an atypical and essential personality of French song. Rather than an icon, she claims to be a punk figure. The one who has been singing since her beginnings for the insurgents and the excluded published, on October 25, a twentieth album entitled “Pick Up”.
Fifty-six years of career for Brigitte Fontaine, 85 years old, who has lost nothing of the rebellious, rebellious and provocative side of her beginnings in 1966. Going against the codes, the French artist is a symbol of the counterculture. Known for her frankness and her sometimes surly character, it is above all her extravagant and fertile imagination which makes her a figure in French song.
Author of plays, novels and poetry, the Breton, adopted Parisian who never minces her words to destroy the system or support the excluded, now has twenty albums on the clock since she released it on October 25. Pick Up.”

Political and very rock
On this twentieth album we find in particular the title “Misty Crevards, poor wanderers”, a political text taken from his book released in 2009, dedicated to those excluded from life and supported by a very rock sound. This garage rock is the work of Lionel Limiñana, guitarist of the Occitan rock group The Limiñanas, called upon to produce.
“Pick Up” also evokes the police violence suffered by young people from the suburbs, the suffering, the mistreatment in hospitals, but also death. Brigitte Fontaine’s talent is particularly revealed in the choice of words and in her always accurate phrasing.
True to his beliefs
Brigitte Fontaine remains faithful to the artist she was when she started, as well as to her convictions. She is enamored of the feeling of freedom, feminist, activist, fighting for the legalization of abortion. Recently, Brigitte Fontaine explained in several media – notably Gala and Paris Match – that she wanted to restore the honor of women, despised by male domination, by showing that they could create something other than life.
This twentieth album contains twelve powerful, poignant, profound tracks, with the artist’s talent for naming things. Twelve tracks which remind us that punk is not dead and that Brigitte Fontaine is not finished being rebellious.
