Comedian Pierre Palmade will be tried on November 20 for the car accident he caused in February 2023 while he was under the influence of drugs. Justice will ultimately prosecute him for involuntary injury and not for involuntary manslaughter.
His name is Yuksel. He was 38 years old at the time of the facts On February 10, 2023, he was driving in his Renault Mégane, his 6-year-old son and his 27-year-old sister-in-law, pregnant A little after 6 p.m., on a departmental road in Seine-et-Marne , Pierre Palmade’s car, a Peugeot 3008, veered to the left and collided head-on with Yuksel’s car. The impact was terrible. The three passengers were seriously injured. The young woman will lose her baby.
Yesterday evening, Yuksel declared on TF1, about the 56-year-old comedian, “He made our lives hell. I only want one thing, for him to pay for what he did“. The father of the family, who has undergone numerous operations, and his son suffers from constant pain and difficulty moving. The little boy has difficulty concentrating at school. As for the sister-in-law, she does not does not relate to the trauma caused by the loss of his child.
The investigating judge in charge of the investigation referred Pierre Palmade to court for “unintentional injury aggravated by drug use”. However, she did not retain the qualification of involuntary homicide because, according to consistent case law in France, an unborn child is not a person. A fetus therefore has no legal existence and its death cannot constitute involuntary homicide.
However, Pierre Palmade risks a very heavy sentence of 14 years in prison and a fine of 200,000 euros. This is explained because he was a repeat offender for drug use. In fact, he was already convicted for similar offenses in 2019.
His situation is very serious, especially since in France currently, numerous criminal acts are attributed almost every day to drug traffickers. A debate is developing on the responsibility of consumers and the Macron government plans to pass a law which would make them accomplices of traffickers. As a public figure, Pierre Palmade could be severely condemned for setting an example.
In any case, he declares himself broken by this tragedy. During his interrogation before the investigating judge, he said he was devastated by the consequences of the accident: “ I’m obsessed with this, with the baby who died. I’m dangerous because of drugs. I’m a nice guy. I’m a good person.“ The court will judge. Pierre Palmade, who lost his father at the age of eight in a car accident.
