A Lake Geneva derby in the Champions Hockey League – Lausanne HC

The LHC will face the Genève-Servette Hockey Club this Tuesday, November 12 at the Vaudoise Aréna for the first match of the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League. The pre-match is presented to you by our main partner, Vaudoise assurances.

A derby in the final stage of the Champions Hockey League

The story is good for the LHC Lions who will face their Geneva neighbors after a well-conducted group phase. Third in the general standings of the Champions Hockey League, Geoff Ward’s men are therefore pitted against the fourteenth place team, which is neither more nor less than the last winner of the European trophy.

In the National League, Lausanne has the advantage in direct confrontations between the two teams. Winners in the opening match in Lausanne on September 17 (2-1), our Lions also won in Geneva on October 23 with a score of (2-3). At European level, this round of 16 will be played as a two-legged match with a second meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 20 at the Patinoire des Vernets. In this format, our players must use the advantage of the ice and the support of the Vaudois public to win in this first act and put pressure on the GSHC before the return match.

Players to follow

On the European scene, the men in shape of the LHC are called Antti Suomela (4 buts et 2 assists), Ken Jaeger (3 goals and 2 assists) or Damien Riat (1 goal and 3 assists). Our Lions will have to be patient this Tuesday on the ice of their lair at the Vaudoise Arena so as not to be surprised on the counter-attack. Excellent in powerplay in the National League, our players will certainly have opportunities to demonstrate their effectiveness in this area with the usual intensity of a Lake Geneva derby.

With the best defense in the group stage, the LHC was able to count on the excellent performances of its two goalkeepers. Kevin Pasche took part in 4 games and made 96 saves in total for a save percentage of 92.31%. Anthony Keller as for him, he did not experience defeat in his two CHL games and even achieved a shutout. With 36 saves on the clock, our young goalkeeper has a save rate of 97.30%.

In this round of 16 first leg, the LHC will need a defense in great shape to counter the success of the Geneva players. With 12 points scored in just 6 games played, Michael Spacek seems rather comfortable in CHL. Altruistic, the Finns Sakari Manninen et Sami Vatanen are among the best passers in the group phase with 6 assists on the clock.
