The choice of moment was intended to be symbolic: the celebration of the 49th anniversary of the Green March in the heart of the Moroccan Sahara. The attack targeted civilians who came in large numbers to participate in a dedicated ceremony in the town of Mehbès, in the province of Assa-Zag, on Saturday November 9. And the obvious objective was to cause as many victims as possible. This is how elements of the armed militia in the hands of Algiers of the Polisario fired at least four projectiles, which fell not far from the place of the ceremony. The shooting was carried out from four all-terrain vehicles coming from the east of the defensive wall.
No casualties have been reported. The leaders of the terrorist attack were all neutralized thanks to the intervention of the Royal Armed Forces who deployed a drone for this purpose. Among them, a senior leader of the Polisario terrorist group, named Abdelaziz Ould Bariya, and his companions. The separatist militia controlled by the Algiers regime claimed responsibility for the attack but took care not to have targeted civilians. The images, however, do not require any commentary. We will remember that after a brief fear following the attack, the participants in this ceremony quickly got up, chanting “The Sahara is ours» et «Only one King, Mohammed VI».
This attack is reminiscent of that which occurred in Es-Semara on the night of October 28 to 29. Again targeting civilian neighborhoods in the city in southern Morocco, this attack left 1 dead and 3 injured, including 2 seriously, as well as material losses. The Polisario decided, on November 13, 2020, to unilaterally break the ceasefire concluded in 1991 under the aegis of the UN. If until now, its threats have had little echo, and even less impact on the ground, the front seems to want to mount an attack, this time targeting civilian populations.

This new criminal escalation comes as the latest UN Security Council resolution 2756 on the Sahara, adopted on October 31, summoned both Algeria and its vassal the Polisario to avoid acts that would compromise the political process. In its resolution, the Security Council “notes with deep concern the breakdown of the ceasefire, recalling MINURSO’s proposal in February 2024 to cease hostilities and avoid any act endangering peace and security, and encouraging full respect for such cessation of hostilities“. Better still, it directly engages the responsibility of the Polisario in this violation. In this matter, the Security Council “takes note of the commitments provided by the Polisario front to the former personal envoy“. Obviously, the militia and its order givers intend to persevere in their blindness.
Instead of bringing the neighboring regime and its proxy to reason, the Security Council’s insistence on the need to seize the recent momentum to move the issue forward is driving Morocco’s adversaries crazy. In its resolution 2756, the council “welcomes the recent momentum and urges us to use it to achieve a mutually acceptable political solution”we read. QED: momentum is a clear and clear reference to the international dynamic in favor of autonomy as the only solution to the conflict. The latest power to have joined is France which, through the voice of its President of the Republic, declared and confirmed its support for the sovereignty of Morocco over the Sahara and its support for the option autonomy as the only way out of the conflict.
Having completely lost the political and diplomatic war, Algiers and its proxy are heading towards another option: savagery and terrorism
