The University is considering operating its cafeterias itself

The University of Geneva plans to operate its cafeterias itself and give civil servant status to the thirty or so employees working there. As reported by “Le Courrier”, the Assembly of the alma mater looked last month at three scenarios developed by the High School of Management: the complete internalization of catering, which to date is ensured by private enterprise; the internalization of the sole service, with purchasing and production being subcontracted to HUG; the internalization of service and production, with only purchases being subcontracted to HUG.

Complete internalization would cost the University 5 to 6 million francs per year, in addition to an initial investment of 3 to 4 million. The cheapest solution would be the internalization of service and production (but not purchasing): it would cost 4.9 million per year.

It should be noted that to date, the institution subsidizes the company responsible for catering to the tune of 900,000 francs per year: required to offer at least one daily menu for 5 francs, it is unable to cover the costs. its costs.
