The Nintendo Switch 2 is coming soon, with some nice surprises for gamers

The Nintendo Switch 2 would bring quite a few improvements, but above all, backward compatibility with old games. Big savings on many titles coming up!

Recently, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console will be backward compatible with games on the current Nintendo Switch. This news, long hoped and awaited, arouses real enthusiasm among fans, impatient to be able to keep their current game library while discovering the new features of the next generation.

Backwards compatibility confirmed and new features

Furukawa explained that players will not only be able to play titles they already own, but also choose from a vast catalog of Switch games, already well stocked. This backwards compatibility positions the Switch 2 as a continuation, allowing players to maintain their current experience while accessing advanced technologies.

Furthermore, recent analyzes of data from Nintendo's online gaming tests suggest that the Switch 2 could incorporate major technological advances, such as support for mesh shaders and 4K resolution. These elements, absent from the current Switch, could provide a more immersive visual experience and increased performance for next-generation games.

The Switch, a conciliator between home consoles and laptops

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has been able to impose a hybrid console model, combining the advantages of home consoles and laptops, well before the ROG Ally and other portable consoles under Windows. Furukawa detailed why this model worked so well, highlighting four key changes in Nintendo's strategy:

  1. The unification of portable and living room platforms : Previously, Nintendo offered separate handheld and home consoles, each with their own titles. With the Switch, these two worlds come together, which made it possible to unify the development teams and maximize the continuous release of new titles.
  2. A single platform for consumers : The Switch has become a must-have for gamers, bringing together popular series from all of Nintendo's platforms in one place.
  3. Strengthened ties with game developers : By consolidating platforms, Nintendo has made it easier to create and adapt games, strengthening its relationships with developers.
  4. Expansion into new markets : The Switch allowed Nintendo to expand into emerging markets, strengthening its consumer base.

Although the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release next year, Nintendo has yet to officially reveal the console. Analysts say an announcement before January would be unlikely as Nintendo wants to avoid a drop in sales of the current Switch, which saw a slight decline in sales last quarter. Despite this, Furukawa pointed out that the Switch is still selling well, compared to other Nintendo platforms after eight years.
