Emmanuel Macron affirmed this Thursday, November 7 in Budapest that Europeans should not “delegate for eternity” their security to the Americans and must more broadly “defend” their “interests” against the United States and China.
From Budapest in Hungary where the summit of the European Political Community opens, Emmanuel Macron estimated this Thursday, November 7 that the election of Donald Trump is “a moment of history” for Europeans.
“Trump will defend the interests of the Americans, the question is whether we are ready to defend the interests of Europeans,” assures the President of the Republic.
He calls to “act”, to “defend” national and European interests”, to “defend” “economic and strategic interests”. The Head of State called on the European Union to think of itself “as an independent power ” and to “take back control” by stopping delegating. He then takes as an example the geopolitics delegated to the United States or the “growth model” to the Chinese.

“This is a moment in history, for us Europeans, which is decisive. Basically, the question posed to us is, do we want to read the history written by others, the wars launched by Vladimir Putin, the American elections, the choices made by the Chinese in technological or commercial terms? Or do we want to write history and I think we have the strength to write it,” said the French president? in front of European leaders.
“The world is made up of herbivores and carnivores, if we decide to remain herbivores, the carnivores will win and we will be a market for them,” continued Emmanuel Macron.
“It wouldn't be bad to choose to be omnivores, I don't want to be aggressive, I just want us to know how to defend ourselves on these subjects,” he added, calling for us to be “lucid, ambitious and determined in this day after the American election.
The 47 countries of the European Political Community (EPC), made up of the Twenty-Seven and their neighbors, from Turkey to Ukraine, are meeting this Thursday in Budapest, before an EU conclave the next day.
