Halloween is barely behind us when Christmas decorations have already invaded store shelves. While for some, it is way too early, for others, it is an opportunity to spread your budget over a longer period. But also, to immerse yourself in the magic of the end-of-year holidays.
From garlands to Christmas baubles, everything is already in place. Every year, Christmas decorations arrive earlier and earlier in stores. “It’s a little early, but with the kids off, it’s wonderful for them“, indicates a mother. In some stores, like ‘Oh Green in Naninne, it takes around six weeks to install everything.
If Christmas items are available from mid-October, it is because there is a real demand. “As soon as it opened, there were people who were interested. From the opening, we have had good turnover. So yes, there are customers who are interested and who are preparing for the end of year holidays quite early“, explains Alain Hellebaut, CEO of the Oh Green group.
Decorating your house in Christmas colors would reduce stress and anxiety. “For many people, it’s an opportunity to escape, go on vacation and get away from it all. For these people, it’s not too early to walk through the doors of these stores“, specifies Alain Decrop, professor of marketing at the University of Namur.
In 2023, the Belgian budget for Christmas amounted to 568 euros, including 27 euros dedicated to decoration.
