Aspect du packaging : no reference brand for this test, and Lidl and Delhaize only offer versions prepared in the fresh section, while the others offer jars. This will obviously be taken into account. As for the packaging, it must be said that no one can really make people want to buy this dish. Let’s say that Carrefour presents the product better on its label, that Delhaize makes no effort on the packaging and that the others really have to make a lot of effort.
The big brand test: is Nesquik cocoa really the best? Besides yellow, we have seen all colors… (COMPARATIVE)
Product appearance: for Delhaize, it smelled really good and had nothing to envy visually of a homemade dish. Plus there were a lot of pieces of meat. For Aldi, it was not at the same level. It looked like dog or cat food, but it still smelled better. Colruyt did less well visually with a very light sauce. But the smell was a bit better. Carrefour did worse with a very gelatinous and questionable sauce. The same goes for the smell. Finally, Lidl raised the bar with nice grains of mustard in the sauce, even if the smell was too light.
Nutritional value: Nutri-Score B for everyone.
Label readability: for Lidl and Delhaize, the information was under the tray, which is never practical. It was also too small to decipher the information, especially at Delhaize. It was better but still a little small at Aldi and Carrefour. Colruyt, for his part, was the very good student of the week.
The big brand test: pumpkin soup is in season, but we sometimes wonder how it’s prepared (COMPARATIVE)
Taste : we start with Delhaize. The meat was a bit too rubbery, but the taste was really good. The sauce was nicely spicy, without being too salty. A great success. Aldi can’t catch up on taste. While the meat tasted pretty good, the sauce was very salty and had no particular taste. It was very similar at Colruyt, even if it was a little more subtle overall. For subtlety, you should not count on Carrefour. The meat had almost no taste, and the sauce had an unpleasant texture. At least it tasted like onions, but it was really disappointing. Finally, Lidl really didn’t do any better. If the visual was nice, the taste was really unpleasant, not to mention the texture of the meat. Moral of the story: do it yourself!
Value for money: here are the prices in order for a 600 g portion: Colruyt (€4.12), Aldi (€4.40), Carrefour (€4.66), Lidl (€6.99) and Delhaize (10. €99). So, quality has a price.
