After a breakdown of more than twelve hours between the Angrignon and Berri-UQAM stations, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced the complete resumption of green line service on Saturday, when the metro opened.
Published at 10:31 a.m.
The section stopped since Friday morning was able to resume “thanks to pumping and ventilation efforts,” said the STM in a press release on Saturday. A water infiltration was the cause of the service shutdown.
The water main break occurred early Friday on De Maisonneuve Boulevard, between Elm and Greene streets, not far from the Lionel-Groulx station. Despite the interventions of emergency teams, the rupture in the pipe was not brought under control before the end of metro service on Friday.
The City of Westmount is responsible for the pipe repair work.
Disorder at the Lionel-Groulx metro station
The water infiltration not only caused headaches for the STM, but also for green line users heading towards Angrignon. If the orange line was accessible as far as Lionel-Groulx, from this point, Montrealers had to take a shuttle to go to the west of the city.
Between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., hundreds of people lined up to take one of the shuttles towards Angrignon, set up for users. Some spent more than an hour and a half waiting for the bus, not knowing whether metro service would resume by the end of the evening.
The day before, the transport company was not able to specify whether the metro stations between Angrignon and Berri-UQAM were going to be accessible to users on Saturday.
