Chef and gastronomic columnist Philippe Mollé dies at the age of 72

Chef Philippe Mollé died Saturday evening at the age of 72. The one who was a gastronomic columnist, notably at Duty for several years, passed away “peacefully in his sleep”, reports his colleague and friend Bruno Guglielminetti in a letter on his website.

Of French origin, Philippe Mollé settled in Quebec in 1980, where he left his mark on the culinary scene by authoring multiple books on the subject and collaborating with various media as a columnist. He has also been a chef in several restaurants around the world, such as in , Japan and Tahiti.

“His absence will leave a great void, but his contributions and his gastronomic legacy will continue to live on through the flavors and stories he generously shared with us,” writes Mr. Guglielminetti. “My thoughts are with his wife and his loved ones,” he adds.

Proof of this generosity, “Philippe always arrived early, well before his appearance on the air, to meticulously prepare his column,” says Bruno Guglielminetti in his post in memory of Joël Le Bigot’s show on -, where the two men were working at the time.

This weekly column was “a magical moment, which we all looked forward to, and which testified to his sincere love for sharing and conviviality”, he remembers.

The journalist from Duty Diane Précourt, still shaken by the news, remembers her years spent with him in everyday life. “Philippe was an epicurean, a very simple man in his way of seeing food. He always wanted to get to the origins of things,” explains the woman who traveled with him several times. “Even the coffee beans had to be from a good source when you drank them. »

The journalist and writer Michel Jean paid tribute to him on X. “How sad. You have accompanied me since […] so long, Mr. Mollé. I will miss your voice and your kindness too. Thank you for everything,” he wrote.

In 2020, the Quebec Maple Syrup Producers designated Philippe Mollé as Grand Ambassador of Maple, to highlight his love for the ingredient. In 2006, the French Ministry of Agriculture awarded him the medal of Knight of Agricultural Merit of France. Members of this order are rewarded for their services rendered to agriculture.
