The Senegal national beach soccer team will face Mauritania on Sunday at 12 p.m. GMT for its first African Cup of Nations match in the discipline in Hurghada, Egypt, according to the match schedule published by the Senegalese Federation football.
Senegal is housed in group B, along with Mauritania, Malawi and Mozambique.
The Lions of the Beach, seven-time African champions and title holders, will begin the operation to retain the title with the derby in the group stage against Mauritania.
Twenty-four hours later, they will face the Malawians before playing their last group match on Tuesday against the Mozambicans.
The competition will continue until October 26.
Twelve players were selected by the national coach, Oumar Ngalla Sylla, to take part in this twelfth edition of the beach soccer CAN.
Here is the list of 12 players selected for this competition:
Goalkeepers: Al Seyni Ndiaye, Ousseynou Faye
Defenders: Ninou Jean Paul Diatta, Papa Modou Ndoye, Seydina Laye Gadiaga, Mamadou Sylla
Midfield: Amar Samb, Assane Bâ, Mamour Diagne
Forwards: Mandione Diagne, Raoul Mendy, Sanou Laye Thiaw
Eight countries, including Egypt, the host country, and Senegal, will participate in this edition of the beach soccer CAN.
The other nations are Ghana, Malawi, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique and Tanzania. They will be divided into two groups of four.
The beach soccer CAN is a qualifier for the final stages of the World Cup of the discipline scheduled for 2025 in Victoria, Seychelles, (May 1-11).
Egypt is hosting the African Cup of Nations for the second time, after the 2018 edition in Sharm El Sheikh.
