Homeless man runs to become future mayor of Halifax

A homeless man decided to campaign in the Halifax municipal elections, making social housing his battleground in the electoral race.

Andrew Goodsell, who lives in a tent, is part of the official list of 16 candidates who have presented themselves in a bid to become the future mayor of the capital of Nova Scotia, whose vote will take place on Saturday.

“Andrew is currently unhoused and, if elected, he will be the first person to serve as mayor of Halifax without a home,” his campaign promises read. he shared in particular on his Facebook page.

Criticizing the other candidates for being “career politicians and members of the professional and managerial class”, Mr. Goodsell judges that he is best placed to understand the housing crisis and the rising cost of living.

Among his campaign promises, he wants to impose conditions on real estate developers to ensure that they respect the public good before profits and prioritize affordable transportation.
